|Message from the President|
Hello! I am Natasha Slaughter, the 2019 President of SHRM Jacksonville. We have had an exciting 1st quarter of 2019.
We’ve held three (3) Chapter Meetings with very timely topics -
Our Student Chapters hosted numerous career development sessions for ALL levels of HR. Whether you are a student or have several years under your belt you can take advantage of these FREE resources. Topics such as Success Is Not Always A Straight Line from Point A to Point B and how HR can Be a Valuable Partner to a Business Owner Growing the Company were made available in the 1st quarter.
Additionally, HR students have opportunities to take a look inside of the HR departments of Jacksonville’s major employers by attending an Employer Site Tour hosted by the College Relations Committee.
SHRM Jacksonville encourages HR professionals to obtain their certification and supports recertification. During the 1st quarter, SHRM Jacksonville supported two (2) local certification courses – the SHRM Certification course at University of North Florida (UNF) and the HRCI Certification course at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). If you are interested in obtaining your certification, please visit our Certification webpage.
Our 2nd quarter started off with a bang! Our 11th Annual Conference was held on April 10 through 12. With 2 keynote speakers, 28 breakout sessions, 5 pre-conference sessions, an Expo Hall and Silent Auction, attendees were not only able to gain up to 12 recertification credits toward SHRM and HRCI but also networked with their peers, met business partners that support the HR Industry but also gave back to the HR Industry and worthy initiatives by supporting the SHRM Foundation. Through the Chapter Meeting 50/50 Raffle Drawings and the Annual Conference Silent Auction, we have raised over $4,000 YTD towards the SHRM Foundation!
It doesn’t stop there! Other SHRM & HRCI recertification credit and networking opportunities include the presentation #MeToo: A Year Later in addition to our upcoming chapter meetings. Our May chapter meeting will be on the topic of Critical Thinking facilitated by Darrin Finley of Dynamic Corporate Solutions, Inc. The June chapter meeting will be Internal Customer Service: Rolling Out the Red Carpet for Your Staff facilitated by Donna Cutting. Lastly, our July meeting will be our Mid-Year Legal Update. Check out our website, shrmjax.org, for dates, times and location.
