Message from the President

New Decade...New Mission...New Vision...

WE ARE SHRM Jacksonville

Hello! I am Natasha Slaughter, the 2020 President of SHRM Jacksonville. In 2019, SHRM Jacksonville had some major wins and it is all due to the amazing 2019 Board of Directors and volunteers. Here are just a few of our achievements:

  • Due to the efforts of our Business Partner Chair, Kenyon Sutton, we had an increase in the number of Business Partners which led to an increase in non-dues revenue.
  • Keith Fairchild led our membership committee to increase our overall membership numbers. Once we get the final numbers from SHRM, we will update the website with this information.
  • With Ken Heinrich at the helm we increased the amount of money donated to the SHRM Foundation by almost 25% coming in at $7,750 in donations!
  • Harrison Paciotti ensured that we had a diverse mix of topics and speakers in our chapter programming. We also added to our chapter programming with courses such as Mental Health First Aid for HR Professionals.
  • We continued our signature events to include our 11th Annual Conference, led by Heather Cosgrove, our Annual Supervisor Training, led by Payal Patel, and the Career Advancement Forum in partnership with ImpactJax led by Miriam Hafiani.
  • We also took on additional partnership events such as the Meet the Experts Panel Discussion with CareerSource in which members of the Professional Council were able to ask questions of HR professionals. We also started a partnership with the USS Paul Ignatius, a new naval destroyer located at Mayport. But we can’t forget our consistent volunteer efforts in the community with college relations events, high school events, military organizations, our annual school supply drive and support of the nonprofit organization, A Humble Beginning: Restoral Project which is a prime example of SHRM’s initiative of Getting Talent Back to Work as it supports women who were formerly incarcerated get the tools and resources needed to find gainful employment. We gave a monetary donation, personal products, household products and clothing to get them back on their feet.

It was because of our hard-working board and volunteers that we were able to accomplish the countless initiatives in 2019. Our Chapter would not be successful without our amazing volunteers who work countless hours to ensure that each of you have a great membership and event experience. To our volunteers, thank you for all that you do. WE ARE SHRM Jacksonville.

We also learned that we are a competitive board. More importantly, we are competitive with ourselves and want to exceed what we accomplished the last year. For that, it takes a long-term plan, thinking in terms of running a marathon instead of a sprint. We took the year and reviewed our mission, vision, identified our strategic focus areas and came up with a 5-year strategic plan.

2020 - 2025 Strategic Plan

Our new mission is Advancing the Human Resource profession for the Northeast Florida business community. Our vision is to be Recognized as the premier thought leader for impactful Human Resources in Northeast Florida. And, our 5 strategic focuses areas are:

  • Chapter Programming
  • Membership
  • Volunteers
  • Marketing
  • Partnerships with other Organizations/Associations

New! Mission: Advancing the Human Resource profession for the Northeast Florida business community

This plan can be found HERE. With this plan, we strive to be YOUR professional association of choice and to grow, retain and engage our membership. These 5-year goals are all achievable and we need your help to get there. We will be reaching out to you to complete surveys, evaluate member benefits, ask your feedback on a specific process or to evaluate an event. Your feedback guides how we run our chapter. This is your chapter, your SHRM, and we want to make sure that the service that you receive is the BEST. We are family – we support each other, we network with each other and we are here for each other. YOU ARE SHRM Jacksonville.
