New Decade...New Mission...New Vision...

WE ARE SHRM Jacksonville



The second quarter of 2020 started out rather interesting to say the least. For some, this time is just like any other - continuing to go into work or remaining remote in this "new normal." While some will experience a shift in determining IF and HOW to bring employees back to brick and mortar. A different type of fear and range of emotions will be felt in the coming weeks. I hope that you are physically and emotionally managing this process for yourself, your family and your workforce.

SHRM Jacksonville is and will continue to be a resource to the HR Community. Although the world has changed, SHRM Jacksonville's PURPOSE - our mission, vision and strategic focus - remain the same. After almost 65 years of serving the HR community - the world may have changed but SHRM Jacksonville will always be here.

As a board, we have been working diligently to ensure that we maintain our strategic focus.

Chapter Programming: To provide a variety of impactful and relevant events in new and exciting ways.

The creation and implementation of the "Mind+Body+Soul" webinar series has received positive reviews and appreciation from our local members and throughout the state of Florida. Not only are we able to support our chapter but others as well - extending our offerings to Florida and southern Georgia SHRM Chapters.

Just like with most companies, we are evaluating whether to host in-person meetings. Despite this, we are proceeding with virtual events to include one per month in addition to our regularly scheduled chapter meetings. This will allow us to meet the educational needs of members who do not wish to be in large crowds.

Membership: To grow, engage and retain our membership.

We continue to have a laser focus on membership growth, engagement and retention. Because of this, our 1st Quarter Membership Report (ending 3/31/2020) includes 660 members as part of the SHRM Jacksonville family; representing a 22% increase over last year (542 on 3/31/2019) during the same time period.

During the month of April, several board members called current and recently expired members as a "wellness check." As a result of these calls, the Mind+Body+Soul series was created.

Additionally, we will be hosting virtual opportunities to on-board new members and assist in-transition members.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has rolled out a partnership initiative, People+Work Connect, to assist companies with 100+ open positions with companies that are furloughing 100+ employees. For a limited time, SHRM Jacksonville has opened FREE job posting to non-members in an effort to support our local community. To post an open position, go to our Career Center.

We implemented the #HRHero social media recognition to acknowledge HR Professionals that are doing amazing things during COVID-19. If you would like to nominate someone as an #HRHero, please provide submissions HERE.

Volunteers: To have a pool of volunteers and succession planning for board leadership.

Several members have come forward to offer their assistance and to volunteer. They are looking for ways to stay connected and know that SHRM Jacksonville is working hard to support the HR Community.

We are actively reaching out to volunteers in an effort to continue to support the SHRM Jacksonville family.

Marketing: For SHRM Jacksonville to be a household name.

In April, our SHRM Jacksonville commercial "WE ARE SHRM Jacksonville" was released through Facebook ads and will transition to Instagram to reach several demographics.

Social Media is a great way to share best practices. Join us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.



Partnerships with other Organizations/Associations: To develop a broad base of relationships with community business partners across Northeast Florida to further our mission and enhance the membership experience.

With all that said, as a board, we are working aggressively to ensure that we do as ALL HR professionals are to do - be chameleons and change with our environment. We have been challenged before - and will be challenged in other ways in the future - and have come out on the other side, preferably as better individuals and a better organization. We are change agents. WE ARE SHRM Jacksonville!
