Certification Information

Critical thinking is the lifeblood of the most essential workplace skills, including problem solving, decision making, good judgment, and sound analysis. Organizations that can attract, retain, and develop the best critical thinkers have a significant and measurable competitive advantage in the business world. Strategic HR leaders assess, interpret and apply complex data points and knowledge to future business needs and initiatives. In this session, participants will learn tactics to assess and anticipate the needs of the organization.

Learning Objectives:

This session will help HR leaders and practitioners:

  1. Understand the importance of objective data.
  2. Identify ways to use data to support your business decisions.
  3. Determine ways to get the data you need to make effective decisions.
  4. Learn how to make and support a business case.
  5. Understand how to think strategically while “picking your battles."


 This activity has been submitted for two (2) Professional Development Credits (PDC) by SHRM and two (2) Business (Strategic) credits with the HR Certification Institute.



About the Speaker

Darrin Finley is a consultant, trainer, and executive coach with over 25 years of successful leadership experience spanning general business administration, operations, information technology, human resources, facilities and financial management.


Darrin began his professional career in the financial services industry with the Federal Reserve Bank as a management trainee. During his career at the Federal Reserve, he was recognized several times for outstanding performance and leadership and was personally selected for a special assignment as the acting Cash Manager at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. Before leaving the Federal Reserve in 2003, Darrin served as Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager, performing the duties of chief operating officer. Darrin has also held executive management positions in a wide variety of industries and organizations including both privately held and publicly traded companies where he has been recognized for his leadership and his expertise in operations improvement and organizational development. An accomplished financial manager, Darrin has managed multi-million dollar budgets, provided leadership for relatively large administrative production staffs numbering in the hundreds, and played key roles in developing long-term strategies to improve efficiency and increase revenue. Most recently, Darrin Finley was the Chief Operations Officer of Legacy Restaurant Group, an 8 unit group consisting of Mellow Mushroom, Burrito Gallery, and the French Pantry in Jacksonville, Florida.


Mr. Finley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his Master of Business Administration from Jacksonville University. He also completed the advanced management program for executive development at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
