This year, our topics include:

The Do's and Don'ts of Hiring Foreign Nationals - Presented by Giselle Carson of Marks Gray, P.A.

The Trump Administration is quietly exploring and implementing ways to transform the U.S. immigration system on its own (without Congressional approval).   Employers are feeling the impact of these modifications which include tightened visa adjudications, more audits, travel restrictions and processing delays on all filings.

At the same time, employers' demand for foreign workers remains high.  A majority of U.S. companies plan on hiring foreign nationals in 2018.  Over 75% of employers report using foreign nationals to fill skills gaps and remain competitive in a global economy.  Employers also report higher retention rates and enhanced innovation and diversity benefits from their foreign workers.

Come and learn how you can best benefit from and manage the acquisition of foreign talent. This presentation will educate, prepare and engage you so you can proactively prepare, save time and gain piece of mind.

The Legal Evolution of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity- Presented by Mark Addington

This presentation will explore the historical foundation for Title VII sex discrimination and analyze evolution to its current state, which seeks to expand Title VII to include sexual orientation and gender identity.  We will then look at the LGBT “movement” to provide context the grassroots expansion of sexual orientation and gender identity rights in the states and municipalities. Finally, we will discuss two conflicting cases that could culminate into a potentially monumentous Supreme Court decision for LGBT rights in the very near future.

Legalized Marijuana and the Future of the Drug-Free Workplace - Presented by Jessica Travers of Littler Mendelson

Efforts to legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational use have spread in the U.S., including Florida, and a new form of “synthetic” marijuana poses unique challenges. The increased availability and reduced stigma of marijuana use is affecting employers, especially multistate employers grappling with various state law approaches while simultaneously attempting to maintain a drug-free workplace system-wide that matches their
corporate culture.
