How to Enhance Your Diversity & Inclusion Efforts through the Use of Metrics

This session will guide attendees to start making a business case for Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) efforts and illustrate some practical methods to get senior leadership buy in. The presenter will walk through various areas of focus for diversity efforts and discuss methods of tracking progress towards D&I goals and describe the importance of knowing your market. Lastly, good intentions can still lead to adverse outcomes. Learn that efforts should be grounded by a holistic perspective to ensure there are not unintended consequences as a result of your altruistic efforts (e.g., internal progression without focus on compensation equity). Even those on the “Top Diversity” list are not immune from lawsuits.

About the Speaker(s): Quenton Kincaid Wright is a principal in the Labor & Employment Practice at CRA. She manages multiple consulting and compliance projects including Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) monitoring, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) affirmative action compliance, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) discrimination matters, and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state wage and hour litigation. In addition to audit support, Mrs. Wright designs and manages all Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs) prepared by the firm. In the Diversity arena, she actively maintains a dynamic web-based tool which monitors D&I analyses for a Fortune 100 company.

Matthew Thompson, Vice President, is Practice Leader of CRA’s Labor and Employment practice. Dr. Thompson specializes in empirical research, applying statistical techniques to the analysis of various issues including firm level employment decisions, government contracting programs, and the impact of proposed regulatory and legislative changes. Dr. Thompson works with attorneys and human resource professionals in analyzing issues concerning Title VII, Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) audits.

The HR community is often inundated with the message that measuring indicators of change and/or success is a necessary evil, and that “you can’t manage what you can’t measure”. Now the focus on measurement is so strong that practitioners are concentrating on measurement as an end, and not as a means to improve HR systems and other business outcomes. However, measurement provides little value if the wrong measure is chosen for the job. This session will provide insight on how to match the goals of the organization with the appropriate performance metric and how to determine the quality of key measurement systems.
